Terminology I am sure is wrong so I apologize in advance. I have built out an XCP-NG server and have about 6 VMs running on it for the past month or two. I built out the XOA and now the free trial has ended. Given that I am still on homelab testing for this machine I want to revert(migrate) to the self hosted version so I can enable VM backups.
I read the how to’s and now I am getting this error when I try to connect to my host machine. I click on the link but see nothing that helps? Feel like I am missing something obvious? Thanks everyone
If you want to build from sources then I don’t understand why you are trying to deploy XOA.
Here is the process to build from sources:
Thanks Tom, This will help! More of learning curve, Long time ESXI user so this was all new to me. Thanks I will give this a try. I just hope I don’t have to re-build all the VMs i already setup.
No, all you need to do is build from sources or use the script from ronivay to install it on a Linux host (VM or physical machine), connect to your servers or pools, and your VMs should appear again. Then just delete/remove the XOA since you don’t need it anymore.
Now if you used XOstor, you are probably not going to be able to recover the VMs.
If you have no physical machines, go to the local console of your XCP-NG server, and use the procedure (again ronivay) to download his preconfigured XO-CE image directly onto the host, it will walk you through the steps needed to set up the networking.
Thankfully XO isn’t like vCenter where it kind of takes over and managing from another path gets harder. Install as many XO-CE as you want to have backups. I also advise to always find a place to run one on a machine that isn’t part of the pool. Could be a laptop running Vbox, could be a standalone linux computer. Just makes a really good backup if something happens to the VM version.
