If I have a dell r720 server with 8HD in RAID and want to install xcp-ng or proxmox do those hypervisors need to be installed on a totally different storage device (ie…attached SSD) or can I install xcp-ng or proxmox on the RAID ??? That way xcp-ng or proxmox and the rest of the storage all live with the one RAID setup.
The proper way is to install the OS on its on 2 drive mirror and then create another raid array for the VM storage. It’s best practice to separate the OS from the VM’s. But with that said you could install the OS on the big raid array. I wouldn’t recommend it.
