I’m new to XCP-ng and I’m experiencing some unusual performance issues. I’m running it on an HP Elite Mini G9 with an i9-13900T, but both CPU and network performance are extremely poor. XCP-ng reports the CPU running at just 1.1 GHz. In contrast, Proxmox handles the turbo and hybrid cores without any issues.
I’d prefer to stick with XCP-ng unless switching to Proxmox is absolutely necessary to achieve proper performance. It seems like something might be off in the BIOS or CPU configuration, but I’m not very familiar with the tuning required.
Additionally, my eth0 interface shows 1 Gbps full duplex, yet I’m only getting a few hundred kilobytes per second when running commands like yum update.
Ultimately, I’m trying to set up a homelab for experimentation and to run a Windows 11 remote desktop VM with decent performance for the occasional Windows-specific task.
Is there a XEON processor that will work in that socket? Price will not be friendly but it would get you back to all P cores.
Is that computer new enough that you can return it?
I’m getting decent performance from HP T740, but you’d need to define your win11 needs a little more before I could say it fits your use case. It is doing fine with Server 2022 and Server 2025 for typical small system AD needs, stuff mostly runs in ram and doesn’t need a lot of cpu. Kasmweb remote stuff was fine on this too. I haven’t done a lot with this since building it.
I can say that VMware vSphere runs fine, including a very small vCenter configuration, but again, it’s a lab and I’m blessed with having 8 of these computers. HP T755 would be better, 2 more cores to work with.
