I’ve got XCP-ng 8.2.1 running nicely with with a few VM’s, one of which is a Debian 11 vm where I have installed Xen Orchestra from sources using ronivay’s script. Is it safe to update to XCP-ng 8.3? Should I update to 8.3? I’m a newb. Thanks
Depends. If you are running production type stuff then I would stay on 8.2. I’m not saying that 8.3 isn’t stable but it isn’t as stable as 8.2. If this is a lab and you don’t mind what happens in your lab then 8.3 would be fine to upgrade.
I agree with @xMAXIMUSx however I’ve been running version 8.3 for awhile because of the intel v225 drivers, I’ve had no problem in my homelab.
Hey kind of offtopic – Tom was such a big proponent from compiling from sources since he stated he never was dependent on anyone for maintaining a script and such. I about hit the floor when on one of his videos he mentioned the ronivay script as a means of installing XO. I’ve used the script for sure. Very convenient.
I have been recommending this GitHub - ronivay/XenOrchestraInstallerUpdater: Xen Orchestra install/update script since 2020.
I used that script to install XO which worked like a charm. I didn’t know about the pre-built VM version though and created a (Debian 11) VM the hard way, from the XO CLI. That was difficult but a great learning experience. I’m just wondering if it’s safe to use the updater in the XCP-ng 8.3 bootable ISO. There is an option (I’m pretty sure) to update from 8.2 to 8.3.
Yes, it is generally safe to update to XCP-ng 8.3. Make sure all your virtual machines are backed up, including your Debian 11 VM with Xen Orchestra.
And then Confirm that Xen Orchestra and other critical software are compatible with XCP-ng 8.3.
