Since I will probably need to do this during the summer, going to ask a question:

With the clean install, let’s assume that you decide to replace the boot disks because they are old, so you do the clean install, import the config and things are really broken. Do you know if we could then reinstall the old boot disks, and boot to have a functioning system?

I’m guessing the answer is yes, because that’s the way it has been for a very long time, but worth asking for confirmation. Yes my boot disks are fairly old and I should replace them, and this may be the perfect time to replace them.

As long as you don’t update the ZFS version of the pool then the answer is yes you can go back.
