VMWare .vmdk to TrueNAS bootable VirtualMachine .img?

My goal is to move archives of macOS VMWare Fusion 13 MSFT virtual hosts to a native and bootable TrueNAS Scale 24.10.0.2 VirtualMachine. I think this is the first step:

qemu-img convert -f vmdk -O img test.vmdk test.img

But I don’t see a route in TrueNAS Scale to point to that test.img and use it for the bootable Virtual Machine. Am I blindly headed in the wrong direction? NOTE: I no longer have intel-based macOS hosts to run VMWare Fusion and hence I was hoping I could use my TrueNAS Scale 24.10.0.2 to pick up that task.

You have to create a zvol and then copy your raw file with the dd command. Then you will be able to select the zvol to boot from.

# qemu-img convert mydisk.vmdk -O raw mydisk.raw
# dd status=progress if=mydisk.raw of=/dev/zvol/path/to/zvol bs=1M
# rm mydisk.raw
