I didn’t find a thread about you talking about doing videos about Privacy, so i hijack this thread. LOL
You mention a lot of youtubers get Privacy wrong and the tech behind it wrong, and i totally agreeing with you on this one. 
I have been into privacy and fighting for our rights to privacy online, since the mid 90’s. My full name don’t exist online(as far of yesterday at least i have not looked today).. no pictures of me either.. i have never had or will ever get an MS-account, Apple account, Google account, Amazon Account, or any kind of account that require my real IRL identity.
So I’m one of those that even block Google on the web… (firewall rules do rule) 
(yes blocking google do break some websites, but i care more about privacy then those websites that don’t work without google).
… Google are the worse of the big-five as they are so integrated in so many websites. (Even this forum has google integrated that is how big google is online.)
But the Big-five, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple and Amazon do like to collect our data without paying us a single cent in royalty money for “abusing” our data.. They are more then five, but the list would be way to long then if i bring up every data-broker etc.
And in some countries ISP’s sells customer data and telephone company’s selling data etc.
Yes i have not mention the Government as here in the EU we do have GDPR and a bit stronger Privacy laws then the US have… so far at least.. it depends on how the EU chat-control 2.0 debate will end..
One thing i react on is some people mix up security with privacy.
You can have 99.9% security with 0% privacy.. and you can almost achieve 100% privacy with almost no security at all.
The hard part is to find the balance with as much privacy as possible with as much security as possible.
As you know security has 100 different levels, and so do privacy.
GrapheneOS is security first, privacy second. it is a good OS… To get privacy from Big tech you do not want to install googleservices but to go for MicroG instead. Sandboxing google etc is not privacy its just isolation from the rest of the OS as the google traffic is still flowing. (what is the saying, you cant both have the cake and eat it too)
Smartphones and privacy.. The problem is people that want their favorite apps that don’t work without Google or Meta, or other apps that sends user-data.
So the fun i always shake my head at is people saying, they want Gmail, facebook etc. but they want privacy. lol 
When talking about smartphones and the subject is Privacy.. and not security first.
Then you have: CalyxOS, /e/OS, GrapheneOS, iodéOS, LineageOS and a few more.
The pro on LineageOS and iodé is you don’t have to support evil-Google with buying a Google Pixel 
I installed LineageOS on my Sony Xperia 5 V2 i had to use for two months while i waited for my new dumbphone when they shut down 2G/3G network. I would like to test Graphene, but they don’t supporting other phones and i refuse to by a google phone (pixel) and give my money to a bad company as google. So for Privacy first. Go with one of the others if you dont want to buy a Google phone.
oh, this is a deep rabbit hole you are going down Tom. 
I feel with you going down this deep rabbit-hole of privacy and the balance as it have so many levels and do it on youtube.
Device isolation and having different identity’s online is good.. the hard part is to not screw up.
You have two devices.. one is Google and one is degoogle.. you keep both with you all times and Google scan for nearby devices etc.. so your other device will then be seen as this one is the same person as they always is next to each other and on the same wifi.. or you log in to google from the degooled phone once and they get meta-data… meta-data is a bitch.. i can write pages about this, but i wont, as I’m focused on the EU perspective.
a tiny little tip
If you know the Youtuber David Bombal and Naomi Brockwell.. pick inspiration from those two.
Then it’s also a guy that don’t care much about security and don’t have a lot of IT-certs, but he is deep into privacy and do understand how meta-data can be abused against our privacy.. Rob Braxman.. He have been a guest on David Bombal’s channel about privacy a few times, so if David that is a deep certified IT guy sees him as a good guest, so he probably have some valid stuff.
Some is extreme on Security… and some is extreme on Privacy…
The hard part is to find… what is the balance for “you”
Making a “threat-model” in privacy is my tip, in the same way as we do a threat-models in security.
I look forward to see your video in the future about privacy and how you will formulate balance in the subject.. “50 shades of privacy”.

and I also look forward to your videos about security, as this is my new rabbit-hole I’m going down since 2+ years now.
