Video Suggestion: Networking

I have two suggestion but I am sure you can make it in one video.

  1. Connecting only one pc to Freenas with 10GB NIC for main workstation but let other server connects with 1gb NIC, so it is more budget friendly for home users.

  2. Connecting one truenas to other truenas for remote offsite backup using zfs replication.

  1. Maybe but the MikroTik 5-Port Desktop Switch, 1 Gigabit Ethernet Port, 4 SFP+ 10Gbps Ports (CRS305-1G-4S+IN) is only about $138 new and it’s a great solution.

  2. I just made some updated videos on TrueNAS including one for replication  https://lawrence.technology/truenas-tutorials/

I was thinking to just use two RJ45 10G nic and connect using cat 6 cable directly. Is there a way to do?

and on replication, I was suggesting more like offsite somewhere on friend’s networks.

For the 10G just assign each of the interfaces static IP address in the same subnet range such as 192.168.10.20/24 & 192.168.10.21/24 then plug in the cable.

For the replication you connect the servers via their IP address. So to have a second TrueNAS at another location you could use a site to site VPN of which I have a video for here https://youtu.be/-8xt7LUtYH4 (3 years old but should still be relevant.)
