Use Raspberry Pi as a Linkrunner

Hello,

I seen online that you can turn a Raspberry Pi into something like a NetAlly Linkrunner. I seen projects such as LLDPi and lldpd on github. I also seen something similar on Reddit but they didn’t give much detail about how they accomplished it. LLDPi seems outdated and also requires soldering which I don’t want to spend money on soldering equipment for this one project or if that is still needed in 2026 and also NetAlly Linkrunner aren’t cheap so I was curious to see if anyone else has had any luck with doing something similar to this. Ideally, I would want a Pi with a battery pack and an e-paper display that I can connect to a switch and it would display the LLDP/CDP info.

Not a project I have tried to build but with the current prices of a Raspberry Pi it might be more affordable to look at something like this https://pockethernet.com/
