Upgrading my XCP-NG lab system and XO compiled from v5 to v8

Hello All!

A number of years ago I followed Tom’s helpful video and resources to setup and xcp-ng lab system. It has worked amazingly and I have enjoyed it so much I didn’t mess with it or upgrade it. It is still running great, doing everything I ask of it.

Now I would like to upgrade both the hardware and the hypervisor to the latest version. Since the point releases are fairly far apart v5 to v8, I expect the best upgrade pathway will be to backup the vm’s, setup a new install of xcp-ng v8, then restore or move the vm’s into the new installation.

Can anyone give me a good and safe upgrade pathway? (second priorty would be ease and speed of upgrade.

*** my ideal upgrade pathway would be to upgrade the existing xcp-ng server, keeping all of the configuration, vm’s and data to version 8.x and then create a compiled but free opensource vm for the xo web management appliance. Then I could make sure the existing config and vm’s are working and upgraded as well, and they could be more easily moved to the new hardware host in the pool.

Thoughts, ideas or cautions are greatly appreciated!

ITO

I have never done a jump that far with XEN but I would start with the latest version of XO to do the backups, load the new system, then restore the backups.
