Unifi wifi curiousity

I had an (immensely knowledgeable) associate who used to say that whenever he thought to himself that he really understood something, like maybe TCP/IP - something he was working with would behave in a way which made him realise he had not quite got there yet.

Not sure I really think I have mastered Unifi wifi, but I thought I was getting there.

At a relative’s house I have set up Unifi wifi. Two access points both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, hardwired back to ISP router. Local server running Unifi Network Controller v9.4.19.

I had been working with them to get all devices and clients onto a single SSID which made use of both APs and both frequencies.
There was a still a previous legacy SSID in place for 2.4 GHz only, for only one AP.
No clients connected to it.

So I thought this would be a good time to remove that legacy SSID - and so I “Paused” it (so being in a position to quickly re-enable in event of unforeseen problems).

Now two of the client devices have gone offline - even tho neither had used that legacy SSID fore more than a week.

Googling around I saw that making such a change does cause the controller to send new config info to the affected APs which could cause a momentary outage of signal. So maybe this is an artefact of “unrobust clients” rather than anything more substantial.

Any experience of glitchiness wrt the “Pause SSID” functionality?

Cheers.

Most likely this and many IOT devices don’t handle reconnecting that well.
