Hi, i know Tom tid a test when protect did release years ago on the CKg2+ was quite slow when using a 4K camera with spinning drives. but lot can have happend since then, anyone have experience on how the mobile app and live view is running on an UDM or UNVR with 4K cameras and spinning drives?
I have mostly used SSDs but i have a little bit larger deplyment with 4K cameras now and SSDs with the storage needed becomes quite expensive.
The experience with a single spinning drive will always be about the same, there’s no way to improve the random read/write performance of spinning drives at that level (things like fual actuator drives aren’t supported by Protect, and also are 3.5” only).
The experience with an array of 4 or more spinning drives is much better, almost as good as the SSD experience.

yeah that was not my question. maybe i need to clarify some.
Tom did say that 4K camera feeds in live view was “sluggish” on a spinning drive and it was better to use SSDs. of cource this is no news becouse SSDs are faster but i woule like to know if maybe unifis software improvements over the years and the better processor of the UDM compaired to the CK have made it a better experience with 4K cameras and spinning drives.
ok thanks, that was my guess but always nice to have some irl experience. i guess the customer have to decide, faster live view in the app and more expensive drives, or cheeper drives and a little bit slower view.
