Has anyone managed to get their Unifi protect device to backup to a synology NAS?
(It’s a relatively new feature. )
I can connect my NVR Pro to google drive, but can’t get the NAS backup to work. I keep getting an invalid username/password error.
NAS address is correct (I’ve tried MySynologyNAS.local as well as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
Username and password are correct, and have access to SMB
SMB service is running on the Synology.
Personal, I prefer and have setup the first one, after I discovered 600+GB to move. Perhaps SyncThing is also an option, but have not try out myself…yet.
Cheers
Update almost forgot, after backup you’re video folder the extension "ubv’ can be converted. The link below give a nice explanation, for who is interested.
Thanks @devopslab. These are both ‘older’ methods (with some additional/different applications)- before Ubiquiti added an automatic backup facility to the latest version of Protect. You can now back up to google drive or M$ Onedrive directly from the app, and you should be able to backup to your NAS - I just haven’t been able to work out out to get it to work with my Synology.
I have a TrueNAS box as well, so may give that a go just to see if it’s protect or the NAS that’s not playing nice.
Personally I don’t like to put my data on there storage.
Perhaps there will someone smart and willing to share how ad additional option for a local storage.
I got this to work with my TrueNAS box quite easily, so it looks like it’s the Synology that’s not playing nice (surprise ).
For TrueNAS, it was just a case of creating an SMB share folder and user for unifi protect. Plug the details of the NAS into the unifi protect device and done.
I’d prefer the synology to perform this duty though - my TrueNAS box is an Asustor flashstore with a bunch of NVME drives, so it handles my day-to-day data and media. The synology is high capacity spinning rust that just backs up everything in sight.
Joined the forum specifically to post this response;
Ubiqiti is using the deprecated SMB1 protocol with Protect - I had my SMB levels set to SMB2 minimum and SMB3 maximum and the client (Protect in this case) would connect but would return no folders. If I downgraded the minimum protocol to SMB1 it connects, returns the folder list and actually works.
