UniFi OS versus UniFi Controller

I’m trying to figure out the difference between the new release candidate for UniFi OS and the “traditional” UniFi Controller. Is UniFi OS going to replace UniFi Controller?

In the release notes: https://community.ui.com/releases/UniFi-OS-Server-4-2-23/21df94e9-55d6-4298-b849-fbef3e3b1dd6

“Full Unifi OS Experience” means things like Unifi Identity, and Site Magic SD-WAN for UXG gateways adopted to it. These features have required the controller be Unifi OS and thus not available with the selfhosted controller.

Thanks! I wonder if the intent is to replace the selfhosted controller…

I can’t imagine anything else.

Yes I am also curious about this….
So far from what I can understand this is the NEXT gen Unifi platform for all things..
It looks like it will bring the complete experience that was only available by using the official Ubiquiti dream machines to a self hosted solution…
There is also mention that it will allow for future “plugin” installs for new features..

If you read the release notes linked above you will note that the “Bundled application" is UniFi Network 9.3.43

That leads me to believe that maybe they might bundle more apps into the server shell.

I am also wondering if this would allow one to have BOTH a unifi controller and a UISP controller all under one server?

Would be great if Tom could put together a comparison for this when he has time…
