Unifi NAS & Drive in a business

So, we purchased a Unifi NAS to hopefully use it as home drive shares off of A/D. However, it seems that the system requires you to use Unifi Identity to do this, and/or create the users locally instead of just mapping off or A/D replication.

Am I understanding this correctly or can I just map drive shares directly to the NAS like you would with a Synology without having to create the user locally or deploy identity?

There isn’t a direct way to use AD with UNAS without the identity. It is only a sync and not in real time delegation too.

Yes, connect via identity. It’s not something that I have had time to do any testing with.
