I looking to replace my hard drive with SSD and wonder if anyone on here has done so and which brands they seem to have the best luck with thanks. I only have the Network config on the Cloud key it’s not running protect so I only have about 10GE so a 1TB would be fine for me thanks in advice!
If not using Protect, and if the OS is at least version 3.2.7, then no drive is needed (it works just like a non-Plus cloud key Gen 2 at that point, using the eMMC). If you want to put in an SSD regardless then any Sata drive will work, the write volume is minimal (people have no issues running the Network controller on Raspberry Pi with MicroSD, after all)
You can only use some consumer drives that have 5V power. I tried to install an enterprise HDD, but it didn’t work because of the 12 V power requirement.
I have a Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB, which works perfectly. (I use Protect)
