multible dacades brainwashed cisco engineer converted to unifi and loving it:)
what seems to be a no brainer when it comes to cisco configs and restoring them if something goes wrong, in unifi isnt that straight forward.
is there an easy way to migrate from udm pro to efg with switches without loosing rules and switch configurations ? ( note no additional unifi apps , just network and wifi configs)
i dont really want to factory reset everything.
i understand you can restore configuration of a udm pro to an efg during initial setup.
To elaborate on that: If the switch (and other devices like APs) is adopted to the UDM then that adoption will be included in the backup and will get restored on the EFG when you import the backup. But there is no way to move a single adopted device over to a new controller and maintain all existing config. But there is a way to pre-add a new device by knowing its MAC address and model, and then you could manually re-create its config before changing over what controller it’s adopted to.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the switch from Cisco to UniFi — it’s definitely a different mindset, but pretty rewarding once you get the hang of it.
As for migrating from UDM Pro to an EFG setup without losing your rules and switch configs — you’re right that it’s not quite as straightforward as the Cisco world. The cleanest method is restoring the UDM Pro backup during the initial setup of the EFG, as you mentioned. That’ll carry over most of your network and Wi-Fi settings.
However, some switch-specific settings might not carry over 1:1, so after the restore, it’s a good idea to double-check your VLANs, port profiles, and any static IP assignments. You shouldn’t need to factory reset everything unless something goes really wrong.
Would love to hear how the migration goes — good luck!
AP’s are the easiest part of it. will not loose any sleep over them.
its the multiple switches and switchport with unique VLAN settings that bother me.
i have seemed to found a middle ground to this. ( at least for a readable backup for the port configuration)
i switched my udm pro console to legacy and clicked on one of my switches selected the configuration icon and selected debug console.
this provided me a direct access to my switch.
if you type cli you get the old familiar cisco like console.

not bad for my first Enterprise interaction with Unifi.
i have a second EFG still boxed for Shadow mode configuration.
but will wait a bit , i want to test BGP first and maybe kill another 2 cisco 9300 boxes
