UAP-AC-PRO vs. USW-Lite-8-POE (52W) - power issues

Hi,

I have the following setup in my Mom’s house.

I wanted to add a USW-Lite-8-POE to power the AP, the Flex Mini and a new Doorbell Light.

Problem: the switch (USW-Lite-8-POE) doesn’t powers the AP.

I tried the following:

  • original cable that currently powers the AP (doesn’t even blink)
  • 2 different cables
  • I tried connecting the AP only to the switch, nothing
  • it powers the doorbell and the Flex Mini no question
  • AP is running the latest firmware
  • I factory reseted the switch and the AP too

When I plug in my Amazon PoE ethernet tester, the PoE adapter shows solid 48V, when I plug in to the switch, nothing.

If I am correct, Unifi had a PoE compatibility setting somewhere. Did I miss something?

If someone runs into this problem. Ubiquiti support confirmed, that one of the first batches of UAP-AC-PROs were made with passive POE only, and the switch only provides active. But the newer versions of the AP support both.

Yeah, I was going to say that, I bought a bunch for a restaurant with a bunch of outdoor seating back when they were new, but the Unifi 8-ch 60W switch we bought at the time can provide both 24v and 48v. So their newer switches aren’t even compatible with their own older 24v passive equipment?

I hope whoever made the decision at Ubiquiti to go with 24v passive has been fired.

I think some switches still provide passive 24V PoE. At least at work, we have Ubiquti EdgeSwitch 500W (which is not modern, but still updated.)
I am not sure what how can you - as customer - can differentiate between the two different models.
