Been using Synology for years with AD and it works. Exploring Truenas for some larger projects coming up. It will be used to offload “way too large” virtual disks. Drives will be mapped to the SMB share on the nas instead.
I have it setup in the lab and joined to an AD and it “seems” fine but admittedly limited testing. Searching online yields varying answers as to whether it is a solid choice or not.
What is the current opinion on TrueNas connected to AD for permissions?
Been used Truenas attached to active directory for the last couple of years.
Not experienced any issues, just make sure dns and sntp are pointing to your domain controller
I run truenas in an enterprise environment. We have had zero issue with it. We have hundreds of thousands of files with various permission structures.
Great! Can you point me to videos showing the SMB/AD setup and permissions? I have my test TrueNas connected to AD, that was pretty easy. However I can not figure out the permissions. No matter what I try either nobody can access a share or everyone can access it. I have found numerous videos showing smb permissions but only with local users, not AD users/groups.
Not sure if you have seen this video or not.
Thank you. Yes, I have watched many Youtube videos including this one. However none that I have found so far cover SMB shares with AD permissions. This video is only for local users and groups.
