TrueNAS SCALE - Migrating Encrypted App Dataset to Unencrypted

Is there any way I can migrate an encrypted ix-applications dataset to an unencrypted pool?

On a machine running TrueNAS SCALE 24.04 I’d I’d like to upgrade to 24.10 and have the automagic app migration take place as well. The pool where my ix-applications dataset resides is encrypted.

In the release notes it states:

Applications do not migrate to 24.10 if the ix-applications dataset is configured on a pool with an encrypted root dataset (see NAS-131561). Relocate installed applications to an unencrypted pool on 24.04 before attempting to upgrade to 24.10.

So I figured I could create a new unencrypted pool and relocate the ix-applications dataset to that using the GUI. Unfortunately, when I attempt that, it results in an error:

Destination ‘AppPool’ root dataset must be “KEY” encrypted as ‘storage0/ix-applications’ is encrypted and it is not supported migrating encrypted applications dataset to a non-encrypted pool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not really, there may be a way to do it with RSYNC from the command line but I have never tried that.

Thanks Tom. I guess I’ll have to re-install the apps as you did with Syncthing in your last stream. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying that they expect the apps dataset to be stored unencrypted
