I’ve just updated our test server to truenas scale 25.10.0.1 - Goldeye
When accessing a shared SMB mount on Mac Tahoe (or any version of osx really) there are folders that appear, and disappear, then reappear, then they’re gone again.
They exist on the server, i can see them via ssh, no issues on smb on windows just on the macs - it’s never done this before on scale 24 just after moving to goldeye its started.
Just wondered if this is something that happens and known about, or something with the setup of the shares on our test server?
I am using a Mac to edit and also using the latest TrueNAS and have not had any issues, but the new update they just released 25.10.1 does have some Mac specific fixes
Updates Samba from 4.22.5 to 4.22.6 (NAS-138644). Includes upstream fix for Time Machine backup failures on newer macOS versions. Resolves an issue where Time Machine backups failed on macOS 15.2 (Tahoe) and later due to a Samba 4.22 behavioral change affecting directory rename operations for open files. TrueNAS 25.04 releases are unaffected.
and
Adds Final Cut Pro Storage Share purpose preset for SMB shares (NAS-138402). Provides optimized configuration for Final Cut Pro workflows. See Setting Up Final Cut Pro SMB Shares for more information.
I’m hoping to try and catch a screen recording of it to help explain it more, its a really odd one, it seems to be ok on a couple of the macs but theres 6 or 7 that seem to be doing the same thing at a time. The folders and files show in finder then they just vanish as if they aren’t in the share, then they appear back
Keeping the server up to date and will keep an eye out on it - I’ve tried everything I can, thought i’d come ask the people that will know the best, its a really strange one i’ve never encountered before after using truenas for years!
