I’m in the process of setting up a new TrueNAS server & I’m Rsyncing my shares from the old server to the new one. But now I’m wondering how to Rsync the homes & profiles shares since they’re special cases. Even when I’m SSH’ed in as root, I can’t access the users’ profiles folder.
I wouldn’t have used rsync for this task. If I were you I would have used the ZFS replication because then you are copying at the block level. Then it doesn’t matter about permissions, but the permissions will be copied.
