Got a quick question. Is there a way of knowing how long snapshots and snapshot replications take in Truenas. I have snapshots running throughout the night and have a scheduled replication in the morning. Want to see how long both tasks take and check there is no overlap of snapshots still running when replication kicks off.
Snapshot task, states “Finished” … but hoovering over the button indicates, no logs available. (perhaps that’s something that needs enabled)
Replication task button has logs, but very basic and nothing about task duration.
In general, snapshots are supposed to be pretty instantaneous. So it’s not like walking the directory tree in rsync, for example. To the replication task the snapshot is either there or not; there shouldn’t be any danger of having one partway done.
Yes, snapshot are instant and replication is completely dependent on how much data there is to replicate. While I hope for some better logging in the the future, for now you can use the Netdata to watch the traffic and determine how long it’s taking.
I have discovered that the information I’m looking for is actually in the alerts bell icon (top right). It seems to have a more comprehensive description of the event including finishing time.
