Tom@LTS an idea for a video on a 101 video on truenas scale

Hi Tom,

First , I would like to thank you for for the very nice videos you made on Pfsense.

I followed them myself and recommended to other many of your videos.

Here, I believe a real 101 type truenas scale video could be very cool:

  1. skip the truenas install ( excep if you think something really has to be shown or setup there)
  2. go with the best pratices in term of security
  3. go in detail on how to provision storage (explain the different options that might be useful if any )
  4. create a SMB share ( suggest the best practices there)

of course, i have my own need with this video

but like pfsense where you took the time to explain a basic yet functional and secure setup, I believe the same can be done with truenas scale.

I think it will complement the rest of your truenas scale video and start give them some order ( like a theme that could be organize as a playlist> )

Anyway , thanks again for being so clear in you explanations and steering the basic pratices of the homelab crowd in the right direction !!

Yup, on my todo list. Because those videos are much more work to produce I am lining up sponsors for them, hope to get the TrueNAS one done in December.

Until then most things are covered in this playlist

#4a create NFS share
#4b create iSCSI share

Might be nice to talk about how different hypervisors use the different shares, and some of the options that should be set to get the most out of the shares. Example being more streams per connection for NFS, this might help XCP-NG but it is not in the kernel (nconnect=xx where xx can be 1 to 16, requires 5.10). Might help things like Proxmox, VMware, etc. VMware seems to be a terminal command to make these changes, I need to dig into this deeper when I get there.
