Tailscale on pFsense 4100 slower than OpenVPN

I just installed Tailscale on my pFsense 4100. I am using Cox 1G fibre. Tailscale is about 30% slower than OpenVPN to the same devices. Is this expected or is anyone experiencing the same or do you think I have a suboptimal or mis- configuration?

I have not tested the two head to head but it’s possible since OpenVPN on the 4100 is probably more optimized for the AES chip.

Tom Thanks for your reply, that was my guess. I really enjoy your Youtube channel and have learn quite a bit. Keep up your fine and informative work.

Could it also be the devices that are lacking in the Tailscale performance? OpenVPN is a lot more mature, and maybe the clients are better programmed to handle it?
