Setting up a new Synology NAS for a Windows environment. Synology allows you to turn off SMB 3 transport encryption. This speeds up file transfers to the NAS. Since the files are not transmitting across a public network and staying local on the LAN, how important is it to have SMB file transfers encrypted? I can gain about 50MB/sec with it off.
