I am helping someone whose home theater has not worked in a while, so this is not being set up from scratch and do not have access to the guy who set it up.
He has the following equipment:

Russound MCA-88 - connected to several in-wall speakers and zones already mapped within the settings.

Sony Multi-Channel AV Receiver STR-DH8DO or OO - this is connected to his TV via HDMI and RCA output to the Russound
The issue I am having is with the Russound. I have the app downloaded on my phone and I see several zones. But I cannot get audio to play out of the speakers connected to any zones 1-4 which I have the speakers connected to.
I have read over the documentation and have not been able to figure it out.
What I have tried:
- changing audio sources
- checking speaker cables
- changing the speaker zones physicly
- doing a network reset on the Russound
- I even swapped out the Sony reciever with another one and could not get tv audio to play: TV → Sony reciever → “Russound audio source in 1”
Even if I change the input to the TV on the Sony, no audio will come through
