I have had decent luck with Synology using iSCSI with VMware ESXi.
Setting up a UPS with them has been fairly decent so that is one of the best features of DSM.
I love my Synology. I bought it from my co-workers a few years ago and I don’t think I use any other free solution again. Never had any issues it’s a 1812+
