Our current setup is a bunch of unifi switches and APs at two locations managed by a self hosted unifi network server running at one location, both behind aging Edgerouters connected via a site to site vpn.
We’d like to upgrade our WAN to 10G and it looks like the UXG Pros should be able to handle this.
What I can’t figure out is how to manage all the devices with one network server.
One plan is to adopt a UXG Pro at site A, port forward port 8080 for for the network server, and then adopt the UXG at site B with that address.
The chicken - egg aspect bothers me. Is there an easier way to to this?
Cheers
Phil
Hi Tom, thanks for your reply.
Multi-site is how we currently manage our two sites. Sorry for not mentioning that.
The two ERs are managed manually, and can be setup before the rest of the unifi gear which enables both sites to be configured via the vpn.
The UXGs on the other hand have to be configured via our unifi network server (at site A) which makes it tricky to adopt the UXG at site B, because the VPN doesn’t exist (yet).
My plan atm is to do the steps below, but I have the feeling there should be a better way
- install and adopt the UXG at site A
- port forward 8080 to the unifi network server
- install the UXG at site B, ssh in and trigger the set-inform command
set-inform http://<site-a-ip>:8080/inform
and hope it appears for adoption in our network server
