Hello friends, I’m from Brazil and here we have some problems with which brands end up being imported here to our country, for example, Micron SSDs that are so popular there, due to their great cost-benefit, are practically non-existent here, except when someone imports them in some application to sell together.
In my case, I have some clients with good servers, but without support for NVMe disks directly on the controller, like the Dell R630 for example, and I have been using NVMe PCIe adapters to install Samsung 980 Pro disks, for example, to run applications, with 2 of these disks in Mirror ZFS.
However, I am currently thinking about the possibility of, depending on the costs, importing Enterprise Class NVMes like some offered by OVH (a player I use a lot for server rentals nowadays). However, I have not found reliable stores that sell original and new disks for Brazil, for example.
I found some NVMe models by serial number at OVH on Ebay, but buying on Ebay is a bit complicated to know if it is really something good or not, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for online stores that ship outside the country and if they can recommend brands and models of NVMes, even better.
Supermicro USA has really good prices on drives because they move a lot of product. Not sure if the same can be said for other offices and partners. If you want enterprise class storage, they can probably sell you the drives at competitive prices. Yes I have bought drives only from the USA office and they were happy to quote me (still money coming in).
Supermicro in Brazil is more for bulk purchases, they don’t have a retail sales market, so much so that I’ve already looked for their servers for some projects and saw that the market is more limited.
The idea would be to find an online store like Amazon or another player of the kind, that would do this type of direct sales, but that would ship abroad.
I know that this isn’t something that is mentioned much to you, because in the US you have practically all the brands in the world for sale in a simple way and with high competition, here in Brazil for SATA SSDs we end up limited to the Kingston DC600M, for example, because the other brands either have few suppliers or very high costs (often more than double the price of Kingston).
For M.2 we end up even more limited, as it is an even smaller market, the only Enterprise M2 model that I found here in Brazil easily is one from Kingston which is also a joke, an M.2 with 1500MBs of reading and 700MBs, just to make the boot faster, but for use, it is a joke, taking into account that today we have NVMes with more than 7GBs of reading easily on the market.
