When editing the host file for a mail server
/etc/hosts
is the first IP address noted as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx the one that was issued by cox or the IP of the server
127.0.0.1 localhost
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mail.Domainname.com mail
Depends if the mail server has a public or private IP address assigned to it.
