Does this offer require using the QNAP NAS software?
No. Though it looks like it, I already had an account and a QNAP NAS, I don’t connect the two.
Just something while it’s free that might be worth having, I noticed that Dropbox has 2GB as a free tier.
QNAP doesn’t get much love because of how bad their security is.
While not an excuse, from the alerts that I’ve noticed most of their issues stem from exposing the device to the internet. I get the feeling there are more frequent firmware updates than in the past.
Obviously caveat emptor !
QNAP has a long documented history of vulnerabilities and hard coded credentials, leading to ransomware and loosing all ones data. What exactly has changed at QNAP that someone would now trust putting their data in the QNAP cloud?
I don’t know that anything has changed myself, I don’t trust my data in anyone’s cloud, however, it’s sometimes handy to have online space for moving files.
