Project Management Options?

Hey everyone, I’m starting up an MSP in SoCal and wanted to get some input on project management solutions. Would prefer something self hosted and open source and would love a mobile app to help keep me on track. What do you guys recommend?

I’m in LA… Good Luck…

We mostly use Google Sheets for project management.

Nextcloud can do that with its built-in apps and such. In my head is possible, might need to test that out, haha.

Hi!! It’s been a long time, but I still wanted to ask. Have you found ways to solve the problem?

You’re out of luck. Microsoft Project is the benchmark when it comes to project scheduling.

The Pro version has been raised to eye-watering prices so that put’s people off.

If you want things like baseline tracking, earned value analysis then there isn’t much that compares to Microsoft Project.

However, I suspect you don’t given you are asking the question, if you want something that produces pretty gantt charts you can do this in Excel and even powerpoint.

There was Open Workbench years ago, it’s gone through several iterations and I believe it’s no longer maintained.

If you want Microsoft Project without needing to learn how it works use a speadsheet application.

I’ve been playing with OpenProject recently (https://www.openproject.org/). It seem like a fully featured, self-hosted option.

OpenProject is the best open source project management tool that I know of.

Choosing the right project management solution can indeed be a bit overwhelming due to the abundance of options available. It’s crucial to find one that aligns with your project implementation needs and is user-friendly to help you achieve your goals efficiently. So, opting for tried-and-tested, reliable options is a wise move.

On a personal note, I’m excited to share that I’m also working on enhancing my project management skills. I’ve decided to pursue project management institute certification to broaden my possibilities and further improve my expertise in the field. It’s always great to keep learning and growing in this ever-evolving field!

In PM there seems to be a lot of good marketing from companies offering training courses or accreditations. Not a great deal has changed in the time I’ve been in the PM field.

I would suggest that PM is a good skill to have in the same way that languages are. That is it should be combined with another specialism, I don’t think PM by itself is enough.

I’m not sure if you’re still looking, but I’ve had good success with Click Up. It takes some learning and adjusting but it’s quite cheap and works well (for me at least).
