Process for swapping out my master XCP-NG server

I currently have (2) servers in my pool, each running XCP-NG 8.2.1.
I’m planning on replacing the master host with new hardware and then moving the current master to the new backup host. So I’m wondering what my order of operation should be here…

  • Install 8.3 on the new hardware, join it to the pool, promote it to master & then update the older server to 8.3. Can I join a host with 8.3 to an existing 8.2 pool?
  • Or, upgrade the existing master to 8.3, then join the new host to the pool & then promote it to the new master.

Thoughts?

Your second bullet point is the proper way to go about this.

#2 is my vote, or you could install 8.2.1 on the new hardware, join it to the pool, then upgrade all of them.
