Plex on separate vlan than file server. Pfsense rules help

I have my Truenas file server on (VL20) 192.168.20.x and my Plex Media Server on (VL70) 192.168.70.x. I am still learning pfsense rules and can’t seem to get Plex the proper permission to the share on VL20. If someone has a similar setup and can help with the pfsense rules, I would appreciate it? Thank you…

Plex should be on the same network as the thing you are trying to stream too.

I don’t use Plex but an easy way to create cross vlan rules is to add the subnets into an alias then use the alias in your rule accordingly.

Tom,

Why does plex need to be on the same vlan as Truenas? For security reasons, I am trying to give plex access to just that NFS share on that vlan.

I did not say it needed to be on the same VLAN as TrueNAS, I said it Plex should be on the same network as the thing you are trying to stream too. As for storage I don’t recommend routing storage through a firewall, create a dedicated storage network if you are worried about security.

Thanks for the reply…
