i was on a trip, and it seems the internet went down for about 10 minutes or so (im in a condo so it went down for the entire building as we are all on frontier)
when it came back up 10-20 minutes later, the pfSense gateway decided to stop passing data in any direction for any reason.
im on version 24.11 on a Netgate 7100 and am using KEA dhcp if that matters.
got home and tried to log in via the gui; no go.
so tried to log in via the cli and using the usb cable it came right up to the menu.
tried resetting php-fpm since that had crashed a year or so ago, no change.
tried resetting the gui, no change.
started looking through the logs but i dont know enough about this to know what to look for. i ended up rebooting the system and it came right back up.
any ideas where to look for what caused this to fail? i have been running this system for about 5 years with only about 4 crashes, and in the past the cli did NOT come up, so this is different.
nope
and when i looked at the system logs system/gateway there was nothing for the 3 days it was down, so i suspect the dhcp server died but why would that kill all the routing? it happened immediately, and coincidentally with the frontier/wan connection going down for 10-20 minutes…
i had changed the dhcp server for the isc dhcp depricated version yesterday after someone said it was beta. so that isnt it.
i could log in via console, not via ssh.
i could not ping anything from the console
my desktop computer could see everything on the local network, but not anything on any of the vlans.
the wifi went down - ubiquity everything except the pfsense appliance
via the console, reset the gui and php, no change
viai the console i could see the vlan assignments, but the wan was empty
fyi, going to deinstall some of the packages to see if its one of them.
i am currently running:
arpwatch
avahi
ntopng
nut
pfblockerng
service_watchdog
snort
status traffic totals
system patches
