Hello
I am looking to build a Pfsense machine with 5G cellular as the wan. as cheap as possible, what do I need?

Get a 5G modem with with network support or one of these on their list:

Which of them has 5g support I checked several but it only says 4g/3g @LTS_Tom

ZTE MU5001 is the best value for money 5G device.
It has an Ethernet port.
Just disable its wifi and use it as a WAN gateway for pfsense.

is there no pci card modem?

I personally haven’t seen a PCIE card 5G modem. The one I use is maybe not for you because of the price, but I personally use Teltonika TRB500, a bit pricey but works very well for 5G and also it’s made in Europe.

I have both T-Mobile and AT&T. I just use the supplied modem with T-Mobile and I have my own for AT&T. They work great.
