OpenVPN Server High RTT/ RTTsd Values

Heyho, this Issue is nothing too serious but I thought maybe someone here got an idea.

So I had 4-5 OpenVPN Servers running on my Netgate PFSense Firewall for about a year or so and the gateway monitoring always sensed those at under 1ms…ofc because those server run on the local machine so I wouldn’t expect anything else.

But lately I completely wiped those servers, updated everything and recreated 3 OpenVPN Servers with slightly different settings (bigger subnet and client specific overrides so I don’t need that many servers) and when setting those up I also noticed, that some settings were different/ missing/ differently named (probably due to the updated OpenVPN Package).

Anyway…now those servers are setup, running and connections work perfectly fine…but somehow the latency is now way higher than it was before.
It probably still isn’t high enough to worry about but those are pretty high for running locally on the Firewall see the Screenshot.

You guys have any Idea what could cause such high Latency?

Are you using TCP or UDP? UDP will always be faster than TCP.

These are OpenVPN Servers running on the Firewall.
I use those to get client connections from the big bad Internet to my local Network
So because those are servers running directly on the machine I would expect those to have 0 - 1ms max latency but they don’t.

And yes those run UDP but I don’t think this matters in that circumstance.
