Netgate 8200MAX as replacements for XG-1537

I currently have Netgate 1537 with RAID and HA pairs with dual WAN. We don’t need the extra performance of the 1537 so I was considering replacing our old 1537s with 8200s, as a pair of 1537 RAID is twice the cost of the pair of 8200.

One thing I am hung up on though is RAID. We opt for uptime and reliability over all else. We’ve had issues with failing SSDs in the past with the 1537. I’ve looked online and haven’t seen anyone use the m.2 expansion slots for RAID on the 8200. Am I wrong to think this should be possible? Is it even worth the effort of trying?

I don’t have any direct experience, but I don’t think you’re wrong to think it is possible. It looks like a normal (in fundamentals) x86 system, so I would expect if you install a second M.2 (or install two, replacing the included one) you would then just use the normal installer and be able to install with RAID.
