NETFLIX apps do not work over pfsense VLANS

Good afternoon all,

I have a very odd situation going on with my pfsense firewall. I recently migrated game consoles, smart TV’s and some other items to an insecure VLAN. The rules between that VLAN and WAN are the same as the rules between the untagged LAN and WAN.

Whenever I try to stream Netflix on the game comsoles, I get an error from the app when connected to the VLAN but everything works if I move the console back to the LAN network. The issue only seems to occur with some streaming apps on the game consoles but online gaming works flawlessly.

The Netflix app does work on my Sony Android TV’s when connected to the VLAN. I’m not sure why this is. Is it possible I need to enable IGMP?

Thanks!
John

The device you are using to control the stream device, such as your phone, should be on the same network as the streaming device.

Hi Tom,

I am using the controller on the Xbox to control the Netflix app. The Netflix app works when connected to my untagged LAN but does not when I connect through a tagged VLAN with the same firewall rules. Games on the Xbox play fine whether on the LAN or VLAN.

Thanks!
John

If the rules are identical then check the VLAN setting on the switch.
