Local Hotel Asking for Quote for Wifi Revamp

I have a site review with a local hotel on Thursday to review and discuss Wifi replacement / upgrade at the site. Their management company in Vegas contacted me and they forwarded me to the on-site manager. According to him they are looking for all new equipment, which require new wiring and other equipment (switches, maybe their gateway as well). Only other info I know at the moment is that they have had other bids stated to be around 48 wifi units and bid prices between $40 & $50 thousand. I will know more on Thursday.

My initial thoughts:

  • In most cases I only use Unifi for new equipment / replacements
  • My other clients are in my self hosted Unifi Controller. In this case I am guessing I would provide them with their own Cloudkey and host in Hostifi, so they can also have access (if requested).
  • I remember Tom had a video on network installation where they were typically charging $150 per drop. That seems to be appropriate here.
  • I am a one man MSP. I will sub contract some or all of the wiring (I have a cabling guy)
  • On-going management to be discussed.

Feedback welcome.

Thanks
Lonnie

I think you are spot on with the plan. One thing to think about is if they want a gateway then that is better management for you. If it were me I’d push them in that direction because it wouldn’t be fun to deal with someone else setting up the networks and having them work properly. That way you are in control of everything upfront.

Yes provide them a CloudKey, assuming you don’t also sell them on a gateway in which case a combined unit (UCG or UDM families) is more convenient. Either way you would not need Hostifi, the CloudKey or Cloud/Dream Gateway is the controller.

Make sure you are clear whether they are also looking for office area networking. That has very different requirements. It can be done in the same network (same APs, switches, gateway) as long as VLANs and firewall rules are properly set up.

The company we use at work charges us a little over $200 per drop with a discount for multiple drops in one location (multiple in a single box or single pull). Other factors are also worked in like if they need to run conduit or surface wiremold. I believe they also have a minimum that needs to be met, probably per building or per section of building.
