I agree, captive portals are evil

I stopped using captive portals on networks I maintain years ago, because of the support issues…Now I have a chief administrator traveling complaining that he cannot connect to hotel wifi with his new computer. He says he connects to the hotel open wifi, but there is nowhere to put in his password and he has no access. I try telling him to go to a non-secure webpage (i gave him a URL to try) and he should get redirected to their login webpage…but I think he’s searching for it instead of entering the URL…

Does anyone know a windows 10/11 setting to make the it search for a captive portal like the mobile OSs do?

Click the home icon in the browser? Unless set to open an empty browser it should have something that will force it to go to the log in page for the wifi.
