How to keep the ppp connection alive?

Hi guys.
I’m just playing with pfSense and a Huawei E3276s-150 4G USB stick. Trying to see how it would work as a WAN device.

I managed to get it working yesterday, seems to work. The thing that I noticed this morning is that the connection dropped. I guess it’s because it was idle. Is there anyway to keep the connection on even if it’s idle?

According to the documentation Interface Types and Configuration — PPPs | pfSense Documentation the connection should not be dropped. I don’t have dial on demand or idle timeout set, so it should not be dropped from the pfsense side, right?

I have not tested a Huawei 4G but if it is dropping because there is no traffic you can use the gateway ping for that WAN ping something to keep the connection up.

That would be a workaround I guess. I’m just wondering why it drops it in the 1st place and not keep it on like it’s in the official documentation.
