[Help] What kind of cable do i need for this 2U fan?

recently, I bought a 2U server case, however, for fan it wants 8 pin instead usual 4 pin

I’m struggling to find the cable from this fan so i can plug it to my motherboard, what’s the name for this thing?

I did asked to this server case manufacturer since i didn’t receive the cable, but they said they didn’t provide the cable itself. any helps appreciated, thank you in advance

They are both probably Molex branded connectors. The small one seems to be on a .100 inch spacing, but hard to tell from the photo. The next question is what is the pinout, not all cables are the same.

And since I see 4 wires in the plastic, I’m guessing this goes to a 4 wire fan header on the motherboard, now you are looking for a custom cable with the correct pin out and different connectors at each end.

I’m also guessing that the 8 pin header only controls the fan(s), I’m guessing it still needs power from the larger Molex connector. How many fans are in that assembly?

Can you provide a picture of the fan itself? It should have some sort of model and manufacturer info.

Dell has 8 pin fans for instance. But there’s no way to tell if the connector is the same size or not.

I’ve seen fans with both a 4pin PWM and 4 pin Molex before, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that large 4 pin is just that. But I can’t say with any certainty

My HP servers all have 8 pins, and they are also double fan units. 4 pins for each fan.

@Greg_E There are 4 Fan in the assembly, for time being I just plug the big molex power connector and the fan spins properly, not too loud and not too low either. the case is using this one: ic2006

@Moseph_V interesting lead, however I still couldn’t find it online. maybe i’ll try to ask 2nd hand server case seller that has Dell/HP brand, they might have it

that being said my server is currently running with 65~82C depends on load, this should be still pretty safe (very rarely at full load too)
