HDMI over Ethernet?

Hello

Want to implement HDMI over ethernet (HOE) for my NVR setup.
Have managed switches and pfsense firewall with multiple VLANS.

Want to know will the HOE work with VLANS (create a dedicated VLAN just for the HOE)??
How will it behave with managed and unmanaged switches in between?
will i be able to get multiple receivers with single transmitter?

transmitter -->HOE–>managed switch with VLAN tag–>unmanaged switch (single VLAN of HOE) → multiple HOE receivers → HDMI input of monitor or TV

HDMI OVER ETHERNET (HoE)

I think HoE requires a dedicated Ethernet cable. You are simply using an Ethernet cable as the medium and is point-to-point. It does not connect to your existing LAN network.

NVR HDMI Out → HoE Transmitter → Ethernet cable → HoE Receiver → TV HDMI In

HDMI OVER IP (HoIP)

Or are you considering HDMI over IP?

Looks like some support one to many, but not sure how they work with VLANs

EQUALIZED HDMI CABLES

Depending on the distance, you can also use equalized HDMI cables for longer distances

managed switches and VLANS what i think are just ways to tell managed switch which port to send data to… i dont know whether the actual data gets changed when the VLAN tag is applied.
VLAN is like a virtual ethernet connection going over a single line. i may be wrong.

The only devices that I commonly see are HDMI over CAT5e cable (or CAT6, etc.). There are KVM over Ethernet devices that are very popular, generally just a local VNC server at the back of the device.

I have that same exact model in your photo. We’re using it in the same switch, and it does work. The GUI has very few options. Pretty much pick DHCP or a static IP, and that’s it, from what I remember. It uses multicast, and the receivers listen.

I’ve installed hundreds of other HDMI over Ethernet (aka video baluns), typically with one cable from the transmitter to the receiver. I would recommend this method if possible.
