Enabling Internet access on pfSense

Hello. I recently installed pfSense as a newbie and I was trying to figure out how to enable internet access beyond a single LAN port. I have a quad port NIC that I was trying to enable access to the other 2 ports (1 for WAN & 3 for LAN).

When searching to resolve this, I have found configuring a firewall rule to enable the port on the network but not how. I was able to configure the ports to access the intranet but what else should be added? Thanks

My current rule configuration on the second port:

It would be much easier to have a switch to connect to your LAN. Then connect all your devices to the switch. I’d recommended a managed switch in case you want to start playing around with VLANs later.

If you don’t want to do that then you’d have to bridge the LAN interfaces in order to use them like you are talking about. I wouldn’t recommend this.

Thanks for the suggestion. What’s the reasoning why you wont suggest bridging?

Bridging is not really preferred way of networking. It can cause lots of issues and headaches if you don’t know what you are doing. It is rarely used. A switch is much safer in case of mistakes.

Would there be similar issues if I were to LAGG to the switch?

LAGG is acceptable to a switch. I would recommend a switch that supports LACP. Otherwise if your switch doesn’t support LACP then you’ll have to use the load balancing option.
