I looked on Netgate’s site and couldn’t find the answer. I want to know if I buy a used Netgate firewall will it continue to be licensed for pfsense plus? Are there hoops one has to jump through with support?

Yes, the licence is device bound.

@liam - One concern is firmware downloads in case an upgrade goes wrong. Lately, my SG-1100 upgrades have failed at a high enough rate that I always download a copy of firmware for a USB thumb drive just in case. One must do this through Netgate’s support website.
On the Netgate TAC Support Request page, they have an optional field for order number. Since you were not the original purchaser, you likely won’t have that order number. Instead you’ll need to make sure to record both the serial number from the Netgate device as well as the Netgate device ID (available in the software and possibly printed on the device - can’t remember). With these, Netgate should honor a firmware download request through their TAC portal.

Well, I’ll be in a position to test all this out next week. Bought a might-not-be-working Netgate XG-1541 off ebay. Assuming I can get it to work then I am hoping I will have a 10GBe capable device with a valid license 
Got the system and fired it up. All working. It was listed as untested/for parts. I asked the vendor if it powered up and they confirmed it did. I did have to reset the IPMI password.
Came with 32GB of memory and 256GB ssd. Had a very old install of PFsense on it. I downloaded the current installer and it installed pfsense+ just fine.
The box was listed on ebay for $799 or offers, I offered $500 and it was accepted. There is another one listed - different pictures but otherwise the same listing. I shoose the one that had fewer scratches showing in the pictures. Item id for the other one is 205187437551
2nd fan is due to arrive today so then it will be just waiting on constructing my new rack. Hopefully it will be in service this weekend.
