Hi all
At a bit of a lost on this one.
Have a old Netgear NAS that failed, changed the hostname and ip to something temporary. Fired up the spare True NAS, configured it with the old Netgear hostname and old Netgear IP.
Some PCs (win7-win10) saw the Truenas without a hitch.
However some others (win7-win11), will only connect to Truenas via IP. Cannot use the hostname on these machines. Cannot ping the hostname and cannot access with the hostname via File Explorer.
Restarted PC, flushdns, registerdns. No luck.
Nslookup, shows correct address to the NAS
DNS Server IP shows correct address.
Edit windows host file. Works. But once removed, it no longer works.
Other PCs that had worked without a hitch, had same network configurations. Empty host file. Shares the same DNS server settings and gateway.
Almost felt like some where in windows, its managed to find the new IP address of the old NAS and locked with the original hostname and its refusing to let it go…
Thinking if I shutdown the old Netgear, windows may decide to let go. But, it didnt, once the old Netgear is shut off, window just say it cannot find host.
Any thoughts?
