Camera AI Face Detections, my two cents

Watching the Sunday Live Stream I noticed a question about Camera AI Face Detections came up and I wanted to share my experience.

I manage cameras for a school district. We place most of our cameras (G5 Turret Ultra) up high, as Tom mentioned, but when we are in an area where we expect to capture faces, we typically use a dome camera mounted 6–8 feet off the ground. This helps avoid getting a “view from the clouds” angle.

We’ve also had some good luck using a G6 Pro Turret about 35 feet from the door, mounted 11 feet up and zoomed in. It’s high enough for people to not touch, but zoomed in enough to capture clear images of faces. The blue spinning ring does a great job at getting people to look at the camera too.

As we continue to upgrade each campus to UniFi Protect, we’ll be using the G6 Dome about 12 feet from the door or area of interest, mounted at 7 feet from the floor. This is a budget-friendly option that works extremely well. Kids can touch them, but the domes vandal resistance has done well. Turrets end up getting moved from my experience.

I would also recommend anyone planning a deployment to check out: UniFi Academy - Designing for Evidence Capture

Also, if you want to see an example of cameras mounted roughly at face level look at the entrance/exit of your local Walmart and Menards.
