00:00 Synology Drive Lock in
00:43 Synology Press Release

With my DS923+ the optional network interface supports 10Gbe. The DS925+ appears to have deleted the optional network interface slot but is limited to 2x 2.5Gbe interfaces.

My TP-Link switches are 10Gbe and 1Gbe ports. The Synology DS925+ interfaces of 2.5Gbe are useless to me.

I have a DS920+ that will be up for replacement as an upgrade and Synology is not an option for two reasons:-

  1. Lack of 10Ge
  2. Drive lock-in. My local reseller lists a variety of Synology NAS but no Synology drives.

As a side note I bought TP-Link switches, WiFi, Mesh, etc. on price/value. I’ve been happy with the TP-Link integration and configuration. There are a few things I wished they done or documented differently but nothing major. If TP-Link devices are banned on security grounds then this network will have been a major mistake. The major reason to regret my TP-Link purchases is the lack of BGP support that is available from Draytek and others. Obviously I can build a box with BGP support but a router without BGP is a significant omission.
